Lighting Upgrade for Leighton Corridor
Location: Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London
Lead Lighting Designer: Lucy Record (Record Lighting)
Objective: Collaborate on the refurbishment of lighting in the Leighton Corridor to upgrade existing fixtures to LED, enhancing the display quality and visibility of objects in the corridor’s cabinets while improving energy efficiency.
Scope:
. Concept Design to Completion (Stages 2–5): Contributed to the project from the initial concept design phase through to completion, working on creating a lighting strategy that balances object preservation, display quality, and aesthetic enhancement.
. LED Lighting Upgrade: Replaced outdated lighting with energy-efficient LED solutions, optimising colour rendering and brightness to improve the visibility and detail of objects displayed in the corridor cabinets.
. Display and Conservation Considerations: Ensured that the lighting design adheres to conservation standards to protect sensitive objects while achieving an improved visitor experience through clearer, more vibrant displays.
. Technical Execution and Installation: Coordinated with the technical team to oversee the placement and fine-tuning of fixtures, achieving a seamless integration of new lighting that complements the corridor’s architecture and enhances exhibit presentation.
Outcome:
A successful lighting refurbishment that enhances both the aesthetic quality and energy efficiency of the Leighton Corridor, offering improved object display clarity and contributing to the V&A’s commitment to sustainable practices.
