Daylighting Design: Senate House North Block
Analysis of the daylighting design for the North Block of the Senate House, a Grade II* listed building in London which serves as a vibrant learning and social hub for students.
The central feature was the redesign of the courtyard into a glazed-roof atrium, maximising natural daylight while addressing challenges such as rain, glare, overheating, and energy efficiency. The design analysis focused on assessing user comfort, material reflectance, and connection between indoor and outdoor light variations. Advanced daylight analysis tools were employed to evaluate daylight autonomy, glare probability, and compliance with BS EN 17037 standards.
