Location: Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London
Lead Lighting Designer: Lucy Record (Record Lighting)
Bespoke Artworks from talented Artists: Jessica Starns, Ciara Neufeldt & Michael Akuagwu with Curation, Project Management & QS by the V&A team.
Objective: Provide final stage lighting design support (Stage 5 – Completion) for the 2025 cohort of resident artists at the V&A - Jessica, Ciara and Michael. The goal was to deliver a lighting setup that enhances a variety of art (media, ceramics/tilework, photography) and fosters an inclusive, engaging environment for public display and interaction.
Scope:
. Final Lighting Commissioning and Coordination (Stage 5): Collaborated during the installation and commissioning phase to adjust and fine-tune lighting.
. Object-Sensitive Illumination: Ensured lighting settings were adapted to the specific material, texture, scale and visual demands of each artist’s work.
. Technical & Practical Completion: Assisted with on-site fixture placement, control commissioning with CASAMBI and coordination with installation teams so that the final lighting met both artistic and practical requirements.
Outcome:
A cohesive lighting scheme that supports the 2025 V&A residency presentation. The result supported effective display and visitor interaction across projects by Jessica, Ciara and Michael - enabling each work to be experienced with clarity, material sensitivity and cohesion within the shared exhibition context.
